Our Roadtrek Sprinter van on Historic Route 66 in Southern California. These road signs are painted periodically along old Route 66. I set the camera up on my short tripod on a quiet section and had Bob back the van up toward me. Route 66 was replaced by Hwy 40 in this area, which is immediately off to the right in the photo.
Cadillac Ranch
Cadillac Ranch is an art exhibition in a cow field along Route 66 (now U.S. Route 40) near Amarillo, Texas created by the avant-guard art group, the Ant Farm, where ten Cadillacs from between 1949-1963 were buried nose-down in order with the oldest to the east and newest to the west. Soon after they were installed, people started defacing them, which was encouraged by the Ant Farm, and now fifty years later the layers of spray paint are so thick they are sloughing off in many places. As you can see from the photos, people are not limiting themselves to spray painting the cars…
