A pavestone at the Petrified Forest National Park exhibit commemorating where Route 66 used to cut through the park.
Our Roadtrek Sprinter on Historic Route 66 in Southern California. These road signs are painted periodically along old Route 66. I set the camera up on my short tripod on a quiet section and had Bob back the van up toward me. Route 66 was replaced by Hwy 40 in this area, which is immediately off to the right in the photo.
Groom Texas
Home of the Leaning Tower of Texas and the seventh largest freestanding cross in the world (second largest in the United States)
Giant cross in Groom Texas. I am not religious at all, but this (one of two very similar crosses in the Unites States - the other is in Illinois) definitely jumps out at you when you're driving across the Texas Panhandle. It stands 19 stories (190 ft) and was built in 1995 - 16 March 2025
Leaning Tower of Texas. A water tower that was towed 34 miles and set up at an 80° angle in the early 20th century by Ralph Britten to attract people driving Route 66 in to his truck stop in Groom - 16 March 2025
Cadillac Ranch
Cadillac Ranch is an art exhibition in a cow field along Route 66 (now U.S. Route 40) near Amarillo, Texas created by the avant-guard art group, the Ant Farm, where ten Cadillacs from between 1949-1963 were buried nose-down in order with the oldest to the east and newest to the west. Soon after they were installed, people started defacing them, which was encouraged by the Ant Farm, and now fifty years later the layers of spray paint are so thick they are sloughing off in many places. As you can see from the photos, people are not limiting themselves to spray painting the cars…
Standin’ On the Corner
I’m fairly certain Winslow is only still around because of the Eagles
The Corner. Not necessarily the one the Eagles sang about, but it is the one now designated by the city. You can see the building is just a facade.
Such a fine sight to see!
Its a girl my lord, in a flatbed Ford
